Hike #7: June 23 Barre to Princeton

We will have to hike back towards the Trail for a bit and then Jump on the Midstate Trail bringing us right to the Wachusett Meadows Wildlife Sanctuary.



1.Head southeast on MA-122 S/MA-32 S/Barre Rd/West St toward Hancock Rd 0.9 mi
2.Turn right onto Barre Rd 0.2 mi
3.Turn left onto South St 121 ft
4.Turn right onto MA-62 E/Mechanic St Continue to follow MA-62 E 2.3 mi
5.Turn right onto Cummings Rd 0.2 mi
6.Turn left to stay on Cummings Rd 0.5 mi
7.Turn left onto Granger Rd 0.3 mi
8.Turn right toward Coldbrook Rd 1.5 mi
9.Turn right onto Coldbrook Rd Destination will be on the right 0.2 mi
 Approximately 6 miles to this point
 
1. Cross the Dam passing a 3 story concrete tower, park office, and then a bridge over a 
    dry, concrete walled canal 0.1 mi
2. Turn right after bridge, leaving pavement and picking up the yellow blazes, walking 
    along chain link fence 0.1 mi
3. Cross a small stream in thick white pine forest 0.1 mi
4. Turn right onto a dirt road, views of ware river and Dam above 0.1 mi
5. Fork Left. Many trails branching off, but stay on Main Road 0.1 mi
6. At T-intersection turn right onto Brigham Rd. (dirt) and cross wooden auto bridge over 
    river. Turn Left passing through yellow gate onto a jeep rd. Follow uphill passing 
    through a clearing between two parrallel stone walls. 0.4 mi
7.  Crest a ridge and continue straight over. On descent veer right onto a narrow woods  
     trail, following blazes, then beginning to climb. 0.4 mi
8. At T-intersection turn right between more stone walls 0.1 mi
9. Cross a wide trail, follow blazes, pass through a birch grove 0.2 mi
10. pass rock pile on left. follow blazes carefully. woods get thick. 0.1 mi
11. Cross a stream, pass through hemlock grove, skirting steep hillside on the left. 0.6 mi
12. Cross Interval Rd. (paved) Trail sign is very deceptive. To continue toward NH follow 
      the South Arrow. 1.0 mi
13. Cross two more streams and a stone wall 0.3 mi
14. Turn left where the trail meet East branch of the Ware River heading upstream. The 
      trail runs parrallel between river and Intervale Rd. 0.1
15. Pass dirt rd. on left (leads back to Intervale Rd.) 0.1 mi 
16.  Turn Right onto RT 68 at intersection with Intervale Rd, crossing a bridge over the 
       River. Turn Right after bridge onto Davis st. Head uphill on Davis 
       (away from RT68)   0.1 mi
17. Turn Right off pavement onto wide woods trail and take a Left at the fork. 0.4 mi
18. Leave the woods and cross RT 56 (paved) onto Bushy Lane 0.1 mi
19. Cross RT 68 continuing on Bushy Lane (now dirt)0.1 mi
20. Cross Paddock Rd. (paved) on diagonal continuing on Bushy Lane. 0.3 mi
21. Continue straight onto wide woods road 0.7 mi
22. Emerge onto Bigelow Rd. (dirt) 0.6 mi
23. Bear Right at T-intersection  onto Hubbardston Rd (paved), pass cemetary on the left 
      0.7 mi
24. Turn Left at T - Intersection onto Ball Hill Rd. (Wheeler Rd. ends) passing under 
      P&W railroad bridge 0.3 mi
25. cross a brook 0.1 mi
26. Turn Right onto RT 62, cross the street, immediate Left onto dirt rd. entering   
      Audubon land. Immediate left onto narrow hiking path 0.3 mi
27. Bear Right at fork onto Forest Fern Trail 0.1 mi
28. pass bench on left 0.3 mi
29. pass intersection with Beaver Bend Trail 0.2 mi
30. Turn Right on the two track Beaver Bend trail. Midstate Branches Left here but 
      continue through Metal Gate to Audubon Center 0.2 mi

Approximately 14.3 miles total
